Due to popular demand, we are pleased to offer this pre-recorded five-part series. This series was originally a paid member benefit, which we can now offer for free to any nonprofit due to the generous support of an anonymous funder. If you’ve been affected by federal program cuts or are considering deeper collaboration or a merger with another nonprofit, this series is for you. In this five-part series, seasoned experts outline critical paths to guide your nonprofit during these challenging times.
Five-Part Series
The following presentations were originally delivered in 2025. As the nonprofit sector and broader societal context continue to evolve, the relevance of some content may change over time.
- Strategic Decision Time: Sunset or Sustainability
Focus on the strategic decisions needed to be made if an org has lost more than 30% of its funding due to EOs or other government programs being cut (state, county, etc.) The session helps nonprofit executives radically rethink their organization’s sustainability. - Business Remodeling for Sustainability
Challenges to funding and staffing have become all too commonplace in nonprofits in the past few years. With system-wide cuts at the federal level to many core community programs, leaders are facing an unprecedented disruption for many nonprofits. This is not a situation that our sector can fundraise our way out of. It will take fundamental business remodeling and forecasting for multiple scenarios. This session offers several strategies for nonprofits to successfully navigate this difficult situation. - Reforecasting Financials in Times of Chaos
Now that the freezes have turned into real programmatic cuts and the end of specific federal funding sources, how to best apply the funds you have will be paramount in your future. Hoping that court orders may hold back some of these cuts or that you may be able to raise enough private funds to offset losses can be part of your plan, but they can’t be the whole plan. Tough decisions will need to be made on how to strategically manage your treasury going forward. This strategic finance session will help you reforecast your budget during these challenging times. - Navigating Human Resources in Response to Federal Changes
Because our team members are our greatest assets, one of the most challenging decisions nonprofits that lose funding may face is staffing changes. As your organization grapples with program cuts, there are critical “dos” and “don’ts” when deciding how and when to furlough staff. There are also real needs that staff chosen to stay on will have from leadership. This strategic Human Resources session explores ways to reforecast your staffing needs and support your team in these chaotic times. - Consolidating for Greater Impact: Exploring Nonprofit Mergers
In today’s challenging funding and service landscape, many nonprofits are exploring mergers, acquisitions, and other forms of strategic partnerships to strengthen their long-term sustainability. Thoughtfully coming together can reduce duplicative efforts, consolidate scarce resources, and ultimately deepen impact in the communities we serve. In this webinar, we explore key considerations for a potential merger or acquisition. We cover strategic drivers for consolidation and how to move beyond talk toward the necessary financial, legal, governance, and organizational culture alignment. This session is intended for nonprofits curious about or actively in conversation with potential partners.
