These two half-day workshops will provide advanced skills for nonprofit leaders. Join us for the full day, or attend either the morning or afternoon session.
Not Your Mother’s Board Workshop
9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
In challenging times, Boards have bigger decisions to make, and different and bigger work to do. Organizations may be considering growing, merging, closing, or downsizing—leading to dramatic changes in activities and identity. Board members are being asked to raise money—often with a new sense of urgency, but with familiar low expectations. Jan Masaoka, Editor-in-Chief of the influential online magazine on nonprofit governance and leadership, Blue Avocado, has earned a national reputation for a new way of thinking about Boards and their relationship with their executives. Come for a fast-paced workshop that will take conventional thinking about Boards and turn it upside down, and offer new approaches to develop your board based on Critical Paths (for more information see “Critical Path for the Board” article at Blue Avocado).
Nonprofit Sustainability: Understanding & Changing Your Business Model in 90 Minutes
1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Too often program goals are discussed separately from financial means, although we all know that both must be discussed together. Jan Masaoka will present the methodology for doing so from her recent book, Nonprofit Sustainability: Making Strategic Decisions for Financial Viability. The result is a fresh look at choosing the right mix of programs, earned income, and donations that will be sustainable for your organization.
