Learn how nonprofit accounting and reporting best practices can provide insight into organizational success, challenges and red flags. Understand how metrics and dashboards can provide illuminating reports to all stakeholders.

Discussion topics will include:

  • Identifying cost centers: administrative, fundraising, shared, indirect, and overhead costs
  • Reporting revenue and fundraising outcomes
  • Presenting return on investment in fundraising initiatives
  • Reporting organizational successes, benchmarks and challenges

About the Presenter

Mathew Hamlin is the Nonprofit niche leader in the Jones & Roth Bend office. He has a broad range of experience in assurance and taxation for Nonprofit organizations. He enjoys working with his clients to provide valuable solutions that are a fit for Oregon Nonprofit organizations and their mission, and appreciates the long term relationships that are built from those interactions. Mathew began his career in public accounting in 2008 after graduating from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor’s in Accounting and a Minor in Economics. He volunteers as Chair of the Finance Committee for The Bloom Project. He is a loyal Oregon Ducks football and basketball fan and enjoys traveling, golfing, running, cooking and sampling all that Central Oregon has to offer.

Brian Newton has been in public accounting, and with Jones & Roth, since January of 2006. He is a senior manager in the Central Oregon office. His experience includes supervision of audits and reviews of various commercial, nonprofit/charitable organizations, and partnerships. In addition, Brian also has extensive tax experience managing a healthy individual and small business tax practice. Brian is the leader of Jones & Roth’s FQHC team. He holds expert knowledge in all areas of accounting and has honed specific skills related to Federally Qualified Health Centers, governmental and not-for-profit audits, Comprehensive Medical Practice Analysis. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Oregon. Brian volunteers his time as a member of the board of directors of Junior Achievement Central Oregon and the Bend Surgery Center Foundation, as well as being the Chair of the Bend Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors. Brian is a member of the Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

In addition to skills development, each session allows for networking and peer coaching in a collaborative learning environment.
