About this event

Katherine DeYoung and Angela Norman
Center for Nonprofit Stewardship

Does your Board need training? The Center for Nonprofit Stewardship will be releasing an eLearning Course for Board Members this Spring. Come preview the course as well as the upcoming release of their Financial Policies Toolkit.

Whether you are looking for a way to train your existing Board, or for a supplement to your new Board member orientation, the CNS eLearning Course for Board Members is designed to customize your learning in the context of your organization. The course contains seven instructional modules, which include:

  • Practical application exercises
  • Fun, interactive activities
  • Board room vignettes of a fictional board in action

The course instruction is presented by a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), an attorney, and a leading nonprofit consultant.

During this preview event, we will be viewing video samples and exercises from the course, and play a group round of Financial Jeopardy. A sample of the course workbook will also be available for viewing.
You will leave this session with not only information about the course to take back to your Board, but also samples, templates, and 10 Minute Board Exercises to try at your next Board meeting. You will also have access to the course prerequisite video to share with your entire Board on legal rights and responsibilities.

The Center for Nonprofit Stewardship is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that educates and empowers nonprofit Board members in sound financial, administrative, and organizational stewardship.

About the Presenters

Kathy is a Certified Public Accountant who worked with nonprofit organizations through her accounting practice for more than 30 years. She founded the Center for Nonprofit Stewardship when she became aware that Board members lacked training opportunities, yet were responsible for governing organizations crucial to the well-being of communities. She now spends all of her time helping this situation as Executive Director. Kathy is also the co-author of a popular financial risk assessment workbook and important documents organizer for governing Board members. She has been a consultant to nonprofit boards and a frequent national presenter on the topics of understanding financial information and protecting organizations from embezzlement.

Angela is the Distance Education Project Leader at the Center for Nonprofit Stewardship. Angela has a strong background in project management, nonprofit organizations, services marketing, and the hospitality industry. She also has extensive experience with the database management system that supports CNS’s distance education project. In June 2013, Angela received a Masters Certificate as part of the University of Oregon’s Nonprofit Management program. She has also served as Board President and Treasurer for a small nonprofit arts organization.
