About this event

Government Grant Readiness: 4-Part Series

Wednesdays – Sept. 24, Oct. 1, 8 & 15.
10:00 a.m. -11:30 a.m. (PT)

Join us for this 4-part grant writing readiness series that will increase your understanding of government grants and help you prepare to secure funding! In this series, we will offer hands-on learning activities, peer networking, and expert knowledge on preparing to seek local, state, and federal grant funding. In addition to in-class instruction, participants will have weekly homework to deepen their learning and have direct access to course trainers for feedback and support. Through this training, we hope to demystify the government grant process and give participants a better understanding of how this type of funding can be leveraged.

Outline

In this session, we’ll discuss what it takes to be considered “ready” to seek government funding by utilizing a rubric that breaks down readiness into 4 parts: Basic Technical Requirements, Financial Health and Management, Organization Governance, and Grant Program Plan.

Objectives:

  1. Understand your organizational readiness. Do you have the capacity to meet the demands of most government grant requirements (reporting, tracking, financial management, evaluation, implementation)? Using the rubric provided you will score your organization on components that assess your readiness at the organization level.
  2. Understand your program readiness: Does your program have the scope/scale for government funding? How do you assess this and prepare? Using the rubric provided you will score your organization on components that assess your readiness at the programmatic level.

To deepen learning, this ‘Deep Dive’ session will expand on government grant readiness principles and give attendees an opportunity to practice through hands-on learning. This session walks attendees through the Grants.gov database, highlights internal controls, and provides class-time to develop and work through a Logic Model for key program(s).

Objectives:

  1. Identify the readiness areas that need improvement and create a list of to-do items that will help move your organization forward.
  2. Understand the general layout of Grants.gov and where to find key documents.
  3. Learn about internal controls and how to implement them in small teams.
  4. Develop a Logic Model that depicts the impact of key programs.

Most people feel lost when it comes to researching grant opportunities on grants.gov because they don’t know where to start and the interface can feel clunky. We’ll address how to utilize the Grants.gov research database to find opportunities for your organization and how to analyze the guidelines to make sure each prospect is a good fit for your funding needs, grant writing capacity, and project scope.

Objectives:

  1. Understand how to navigate and utilize the Grants.gov research database.
  2. Learn how to analyze a grant opportunity by looking at the Synopsis and at the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to determine if you meet the requirements

In our final session, we give participants the chance for hands-on learning by providing class-time to research grant opportunities in the Grants.gov database. We’ll wrap-up our series by going over key considerations for writing, editing, and reporting on government grants.

Objectives:

  1. Gain confidence in your ability to find government grant opportunities that are the right fit for your organization through practice.
  2. Learn how to build a written outline using the NOFO and understand what funders are looking for in your answers.
  3. Understand the different components that might be included in grant reporting and how to prepare your organization for “after the grant award.”
