Kathleen Joy, Executive Director, Oregon Volunteers
Lunch & Networking at 11:30
Presentation at 12:00
Each year, one out of every three volunteers in Oregon does not return to donate their time to any nonprofit. While this dramatic loss can be attributed to a number of factors, research shows that the first among them is the poor job that nonprofit staff does in managing and supporting them.
Our conversation will build on the cover story from a recent issue of the Stanford Social Innovation Review, entitled “The New Volunteer Workforce.” The article, authored by senior staff of the Corporation for National and Community Service, suggests that nonprofit leaders must develop a more strategic approach to managing this overlooked and undervalued talent pool.
Join us for a look at Oregon's volunteer profile, and hear from local leaders who are successful in retaining volunteers by tapping into their abilities and interests. We'll discuss:
- Volunteering in Oregon, our state profile
- Creating a vision for volunteerism
- Capitalizing on volunteer talent
- The volunteer management function in your organization
