Event Description
Title
DEI Audit and Assessment: Managing the Work in Between Where We Are and Where We Hope to Be
Cohort Facilitator
Erica Briggs, Nonprofit Education Specialist, NAO
Growth in any area requires an honest audit of organizational history and an objective tool to assess success and continued growth areas. Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) audits can help identify existing workplace conditions and help strengthen weak spots to build excellent cultural resiliency. However, as with any test, audits can be met with fear and resistance, pulling people apart and building walls. This cohort will share key considerations on how best to approach a DEI audit and how to use this process to deepen relationships and build bridges that lead to learning and growth.
Participants will learn how to:
- Account for the policies and procedures that may be inhibiting growth
- Evaluate the costs and benefits to both the service providers and the communities served
- Create a measurement tool that will help guide movement towards an inclusive organizational culture
Additional Guidelines
- This learning cohort is intended to support Oregon-based 501(c)(3) nonprofits statewide.
- Participants make a commitment to attend all sessions so we can collectively work together and build a network of support.
- Conversations will be held as confidential to allow for depth and breadth of exploration.
- Limit is 15 individuals per cohort with no more than two representatives from one organization.
Outline
|
Session 1 |
11/07/23 |
Know Your History – This introduction will establish your organizational context related to DEIB. We will look back to learn what DEIB work that has been done in your organization, discuss its general impact, and discover common threads that connect people and the work being done to increase DEIB. |
|
Session 2 |
11/14/23 |
Assemble the People – This session will help identify how to involve everyone in the auditing process to increase value and buy-in. From gathering data and metrics, to conducting or participating in employee surveys and focus groups, each person in your organization has an asset to invest. |
|
Session 3 |
11/21/23 |
Become a Supermodel – Policies and practices of your organization highlight values you prioritize and the standards by which you hold employees accountable. It is up to leaders to not only to follow these policies and practices, but also model their character and spirit. This session will help leaders strengthen their strut and build up others to help share the load. |
|
Session 4 |
11/28/23 |
Lean into the Mess – Building an equitable workplace culture will require a firm stance in the face of resistance. Change will be challenged, but instead of fighting against resistance, this session will help you lean into it with an ear to hear what the resistance is trying to teach. |
|
Session 5 |
12/05/23 |
Learn from the Lessons – There are many metrics that can be employed to assess integration of DEIB in your organizational culture. A true assessment, however, tests the entire process. This session will focus on what can be learned from the beginning to the end – starting with the first lesson: the process never ends. |
