Event Description

Title
Terminations: They Don't Have to Be Scary!

Presenter
Jim Hayek, Principal, JHE Consulting

Terminating an employee can be uncomfortable and challenging for many managers and HR professionals. However, with the proper preparation and approach, navigating the process smoothly and minimizing anxiety is possible. In this session, we will explore practical strategies and effective communication techniques to help you tackle terminations confidently, ensuring that the experience is not scary for you or the employee.

Participants will learn the essential elements of termination planning, including the when, where, how, and what to say. You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the key considerations involved in successfully managing employee terminations, from setting the right timing to selecting an appropriate location for the conversation. Through interactive discussions, real-life experiences, and non-legalese plain talk, you will develop the necessary skills to approach termination conversations with empathy, professionalism, and respect. We will focus on learning strategies to deliver difficult news while maintaining a safe environment for you and the employee and ensuring that the employee's dignity and well-being are respected throughout the process.

NAO is committed to creating inclusive learning environments and providing reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Automatic closed captioning via Zoom is turned on by default for all NAO virtual sessions. For other accommodation requests, please contact us at [email protected].
