Building Immunity by Building Community (BIBC)

This seminar provides an opportunity to learn more about COVID-19, the vaccine, and the upcoming booster. The focus will be on answering any questions that you may have and will provide tools to help you make an informed decision about whether the vaccine is the right choice for you as well as help you have these conversations with your communities.
This seminar will cover:
- The decision making process
- Vaccine safety
- Type of vaccines
- Vaccine reactions
- The Novavax vaccine and new bivalent vaccine
- How you can talk about this information with other people
This project is a collaboration between the Oregon Rural Practice-based Research Network (ORPRN), Boost Oregon, Oregon Health Authority (OHA), and Oregon Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP).
About the Presenter

Renee Menkens, M.S. , R.N., Assistant Professor, OHSU School of Nursing Renee' Menkens received her AD degree from Southwestern Oregon Community College and her BS degree from Southern Oregon State College. She received her MS degree in Community Health Care Systems and her Post Master's Certificate in Nursing Education from OHSU School of Nursing. Ms. Menkens has been a faculty at OHSU in the RNBS Completion Program for eight years. She worked at Southwestern Oregon Community College as an Assistant Professor for seven years and then became a full-time instructor in the RNBS Completion Program in the summer of 2012. Ms. Menkens teaches in NRS427 Practice Integration,NRS424I and NRS425I specialty courses, NRS411 Epidemiology and NRS412 Leadership and Outcomes Management. Ms. Menkens continues to be an active member of the Oregon Consortium for Nursing Education and currently serves as a member of the OCNE Curriculum Committee. Ms. Menkens lives in Coos Bay, Oregon and is an active member in her community. She volunteers as vice president for the Coos County Friends of Public Health, is a Coos County Community Health Improvement Coalition steering committee member and is a Medical Reserve Corp volunteer. She completed a Leadership Coos course to better understand the economic and health care issues in Coos County Oregon. Ms. Menkens is passionate about improving the health of Oregon citizens and the residents of Coos County. She practices as an on-call RN staff nurse at the local hospital in their case Management Unit as a Discharge Calls RN. In this role she makes phone calls to patients discharged within 24-72 hours to assess their health care needs post hospitalization.
