Traditionally, leadership positions come with some amount of designated authority. But what happens when you are tasked with leading and managing people over whom you have little or no formal authority? How do you get your colleagues, peers, and those outside of your reporting structure to cooperate and help achieve a common goal that you have been tasked to manage?

As organizational hierarchies flatten and business models embrace a move from command-and-control type leadership, to a more peer-to-peer, team-driven leadership approach, the question of how to lead without designated authority becomes even more significant to organizational success.

This course will help participants improve their influencing and persuading skills in positions where their role requires but does not have designated authority.

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify and describe the current challenges participants are experiencing
  • Examine sources of authority and influence
  • Describe different types of authority
  • Differentiate between persuasion and manipulation
  • Discuss skills and techniques to improve influencing and persuading skills
