Event Description
Title
Building Inclusive Teams
Presenter
Gerardo Ochoa, Ed.M., Associate Vice President for Retention and Student Success, Linfield University
As the demographics of our communities continue to change, organizations are striving to reflect on the communities they serve. This interactive session focuses on the implicit attitudes, behaviors, policies, and practices that influence how we engage with individuals and/or groups and make decisions in the workplace. The session provides an introductory exploration of the intersection of privilege, cognitive and structural bias, and micro and macro aggressions. The session reinforces the importance of having cultural agility and empathy and developing intentional tools and strategies for recruitment and retention.
Participants will be able to:
- Gain an introductory understanding of the intersectionality of privilege
- Identify the differences between unconscious and structural/institutional bias
- Explore strategies to mitigate bias in decision-making
Automatic closed captioning via Zoom is turned on by default for all NAO virtual sessions. For other accommodation requests, please contact us at [email protected]. Advanced notice of at least 10 days is appreciated.
