Have you ever heard yourself or someone else say:
“Some of my best friends are…”
“I don’t think of you as…”
“I don’t see color. I’m colorblind.”
These statements and dozens more like them can build a chasm between you and the people you interact with. Although well intended, these kinds of statements can be offensive, racist, and hurtful. If you’ve ever wanted to be more effective in your communication with others, or have been afraid of saying the wrong thing, this course is for you.
We will examine each statement and create new language that is inclusive and respectful. You won’t get it right every time but with a bit of training you definitely can reduce the probability of repeating these gaffes.
