Join tax and business attorney Dan Eller to review the basics and explore the complexities of nonprofit business enterprise options and compliance. As more and more nonprofit organizations engage in social enterprise, this session reminds us that considerations extend far beyond mission and impact.

From the rules for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations to the interrelationship between commercial enterprises and nonprofit organizations, this session explores a range of topics that allows us to assess social enterprise from many directions and determine the best approach. Topics include:

  • Consolidation and formation of structures for new entities
  • Unrelated business income tax (UBIT) implications
  • Nonprofit and for-profit subsidiaries

About the Presenter

Dan Eller practices business and tax law in the Portland office of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt. Dan’s practice includes an emphasis in the law of tax-exempt nonprofit organizations. Dan also assists for- and nonprofit organizations and individuals with a variety of tax planning and controversy matters.
