About this event

Carnahan Consulting

Registration & Breakfast at 8:30
Presentation at 9:00

Once you and your Board have decided to implement a planned giving program, what are the next steps? Is your organization ready? Do you have the appropriate guiding documents? Why do you want to promote planned gifts, and what is your goal? Is planned giving part of your strategic plan? How do you get started with limited time and resources?

Being prepared as an organization to promote and accept planned gifts can help your donors translate their desire to support your nonprofit into an action that will benefit your community for years to come. Simple and consistent effort will pay off in the long term.

We will cover:

  • Organizational readiness
  • The case for starting a planned giving program
  • Guiding documents, such as Board policies
  • The basics—types of gifts, tools, and infrastructure
  • Marketing your planned giving program

About the Presenter

Maureen Thomas Carnahan, a lifelong Oregonian, has spent her career primarily in the nonprofit arena. Maureen was Director for The Ontario Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau, which brought an opportunity to serve on numerous statewide tourism committees, including the Scenic Byway Review Team. She served as Marketing Director and Interim Director for Four River Cultural Center during its inception years and as President of the Board of Trustees at Treasure Valley Community College.

After moving to Salem in 1998, Maureen spent 10 years as the Development Director and then Executive Director of Mission Mill Museum. Two major renovations took place during her tenure at the Museum, including the naming of the Woolen Mill as an “American Treasure.” Maureen also opened the Salem office for The Oregon Community Foundation, serving as a Charitable Gift Planner and Regional Director of the Northern Willamette Valley Region for six years, a position that has broadened her awareness and association with many nonprofit organizations.

Much of the focus of her work has supported organizational readiness in fundraising, endowment building, and Board development. The value of nonprofit organizations and their service and commitment to our communities is vital. Maureen brings a depth of knowledge to support this important segment of our state.
