Every nonprofit organization has a business model, and understanding your nonprofit’s business model is a key element of successful planning and sustainability. This session presents concepts from the book Nonprofit Sustainability: Making Strategic Decisions for Financial Viability to help nonprofit Board and staff leaders do just what the name implies—make strategic decisions that foster both programmatic and financial sustainability.
Participants will explore:
- Mapping your organization’s business model
- Identifying core activities or business lines
- Considering impact and revenue strategies as well as their strengths and weaknesses
- Honoring the dual bottom line
About the Presenter
Paul Lipscomb is a consultant and facilitator for board development, organizational planning, and executive leader development. For the past 12 years Paul has focused his work on providing interim executive leadership and executive transition services having served in 17 such positions. Paul’s primary focus has been developing support for organizations wishing to develop a strong leadership and sustainable organizations. Paul works with a wide range and diverse team of skilled professionals in the fields of planning, financial management, fund development, and strategic and business planning support. In 1983 Paul was the founding director of an organization that serves people with disabilities. Like many of his peers, he needed to learn many of the core skills and competencies to effectively lead and manage sustainable organizations that are true to their core mission. For over 25 years Paul has also been consulting, and collaborating with other consultants who focus on helping create learning teams and strong leadership structures in order to ensure effective and sustainable organizations.

About the Network
Each session of the Nonprofit Network of Central Oregon is designed to strengthen your management skills while providing field-tested concepts and tools to take back to your organization for implementation. In addition to skills development, each session allows for networking and peer coaching in a collaborative learning environment.
