Gareth Nevitt, CFO
Portland Art Museum
Continental Breakfast & Presentation at 7:30
Networking at 9:00
This session will examine how financial processing has evolved from hand-written ledgers and manual procedures to computerized accounting systems, electronic funds transfers, and online donations and examine risk management options. Have your controls kept pace with your changing operations? What new risks lurk in cyberspace?
This session might be of interest to you if your organization:
- Takes checks to the bank to deposit them
- Writes checks to pay vendors
- Uses credit cards to pay bills
- Makes payments to its employees
- Uses spreadsheets as part of the accounting process
If you do any of the above using a computer, then you should be reviewing your electronic controls to find out what new options are available to more effectively and efficiently safeguard your organization's financial transactions.
About the Presenter
Gareth Nevitt spent 14 years in public accounting with Grant Thornton in London and San Francisco. During that time, his many nonprofit clients included religious and educational organizations, as well as several large pension funds of publicly traded companies. More recently, he was the COO of the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross for five years before becoming CFO of the Portland Art Museum in 2008. Over the last eighteen months has been rebuilding an accounting department that had suffered 70% turnover and dealing with the impact of the recession on charitable giving.
Mr. Nevitt is the author of "Pension Schemes: An Industry Accounting and Auditing Guide" published by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, of which he is a fellow. He is a member and past Board member of Financial Executives International and a graduate of Leadership Portland.
