About this event
COURSE DESCRIPTION
In non-Western cultures, common wisdom tells us that holistic healing is central. More and more, studies are confirming that trauma prevention and intervention is significantly more effective when somatic methods and therapies are included. Through discussion and movement, this workshop explores western and traditional attitudes about the body. Participants will learn about the effects of trauma on the body and body-based tools for self-care and healing in social service work. We recommend that participants wear comfortable clothing to fully engage in movement-based activities. This class is appropriate for everyone– survivors, care providers and all other participants.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Learn about and critique dominant approaches to the body.
Gain understanding of traditional, trauma-informed and holistic approaches to the body.
Learn skills to include our bodies and the bodies of others we support/work with in social services.
