COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

During Safety Planning, Crisis Intervention & Advocacy Skills attendees will learn and practice advocacy skills vital to supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Using real-life scenarios, we will work in small groups to apply these learned skills in crisis response situations and when creating safety plans. Discussions will also include healthy boundaries and tips for working with survivors.

 

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:

 

Define the role of an advocate

Discuss and practice advocacy skills like active listening, validation, paraphrasing, etc.

Learn about crisis intervention and safety planning with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Practice and apply advocacy skills using a broad range of scenarios including staying, leaving and returning to abusive situations.
