ABOUT THE BLACK UNITED FUND OF OREGON:

In 1983, in response to the inequitable distribution of philanthropic support to communities of color, leaders in North and Northeast Portland founded the Black United Fund of Oregon (BUF). BUF’s work has engaged new donors and partners from a variety of backgrounds and cultures to address the root causes of inequities among the communities served. Today, BUF celebrates 36 years of serving Oregon’s communities of color through its mission, to “assist in the social and economic development of Oregon’s low-income communities and to contribute to a broader understanding of ethnic and culturally-diverse groups” and remains focused on positively and permanently impacting communities of color through the creation of equitable social, economic, and educational opportunities.
