Event Description

The Lincoln County Nonprofit Resource Round-Up is a learning and networking opportunity convened by the Nonprofit Association of Oregon for nonprofit staff, board, and volunteers to connect, meet funders, and learn about valuable tools and resources designed specifically for nonprofits.

Work Session: Assessing Your Organization's Health and Vital Signs

After the funders panel and discussion, participants will work together through a facilitated discussion and an assessment tool to identify areas where you can improve your work and connect to resources that can help you become more effective in serving your mission. This exercise explores indicators of health in a nonprofit across the following areas:

• Running a nonprofit organization
• Board issues
• Human resources issues
• Operational issues
• Fundraising and resource development
• How to better include and engage clients

About the Facilitator and Funder Panelists

Mychal Cherry, Executive Director, Spirit Mountain Community Fund Mychal was born and raised in Oregon and is a proud member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde where she began her career in Indian Child Welfare. Most recently she worked for Spirit Mountain Gaming, Inc. as a Marketing Manager from 2009 to 2017. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership and is studying for her Master’s degree. She is happily married with 5 children and a grandson in northwest, Oregon. Mychal feels honored to be serving in the role as the Executive Director for the Spirit Mountain Community Fund and representing her tribe.
Angela Sears, Program Coordinator, Spirit Mountain Community Fund Angela Sears is the Program Coordinator at Spirit Mountain Community Fund. She is an Oregon Native, a proud member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, and is passionate about tribal philanthropy. Prior to joining SMCF, she worked in the marketing department at Spirit Mountain Casino. She attended the University of Oregon and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Communications
Levi Williams, Associate Program Officer, The Ford Family Foundation Levi Williams is an Associate Program Officer at The Ford Family Foundation. As part of a close-knit team, he assists with the Foundation’s strategies to support strong families and healthy children. He works with Foundation grant-seekers and other organizational partners from rural Oregon and Siskiyou County, Calif. Levi also conducts site visits of grant-seekers and advises grantees. Prior to joining the Foundation in 2018, Levi worked for Kellogg Springs Camp in Douglas County. He grew the camp, managed staff and supported a board of directors from across the Pacific Northwest. Levi has a bachelor's degree in education from Olivet Nazarene University in Illinois. He grew up in Loveland, Colorado.
Jim White, Executive Director, Nonprofit Association of Oregon As the Executive Director of the Nonprofit Association of Oregon, Jim is deeply committed to social change and has worked in the nonprofit sector both domestically and internationally for more than 20 years. He is passionate about affecting systemic change results in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors working together to support and strengthen civil society.

Lunch Discussion with Dr. Jenna Tilt, Oregon State University

Please consider staying after NAO's Resource Round-up event for a brief presentation and lunch discussion with Dr. Jenna Tilt from Oregon State University related to the project, “Envisioning a Resilient Oregon Coast” funded by Oregon Sea Grant.

This research project will develop a framework to improve coastal community adaptation and resilience to chronic and acute hazards caused by flooding, earthquake, and tsunami events. Participants will discuss how specific long-term community planning actions aimed at mitigating earthquake and tsunami risks may impact nonprofits and the people they serve. Your input through this conversation will help guide the development of computer models that simulate future hazard events coupled with long-term policy actions, and their subsequent community impacts.

Dr. Jenna Tilt is a research social scientist at Oregon State University in the College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences. Her research focuses on socio-ecological systems, particularly the intersection between environmental/resource management, land use planning, and social equity.
