Ford Institute Leadership Program
Open to the Forest Grove Community
The Effective Organizations workshop is designed to enhance the capacity of rural community leaders to “get things done”—developing skills and knowledge for leadership and management of smart, effective organizations that can make a bigger impact, and thereby infuse the community with vitality. The workshop provides practical strategies and tools for success.
This workshop is open to Forest Grove area community members and organizations serving the Forest Grove area. The workshop takes place over two weekends. Effective Organizations is fully funded by the Ford Institute for Community Building. There is no cost to attend and meals are provided. Participants are expected to attend all sessions. After the workshop, participants and their affiliate organizations have access to a pool of coaching hours to continue the learning from the workshop.
Standard topics covered include:
- Planning Wisely: planning cycle, applications, and tools
- Financial Management: decision making, transparency, accountability, and compliance
- Resource Development: sources, individual fundraising strategies and skills, and grants
- Board Development: roles, responsibilities, and engagement strategies
- Supervision: supervisory cycle, styles and skills
- Volunteer Program Management: key program elements, and recruitment strategies
- Effective Teams & Meetings: stages of development, core functions, and getting results
- Communication: key skills and managing conflict
- Making Your Organization’s Case for Support: tips and opportunities for practice
Who Should Attend?
Effective Organizations is open to Forest Grove area community members and organizations serving the Forest Grove area who are interested in learning more about building smart, effective organizations that make a bigger impact. It is an opportunity to gather for rich discussion, peer learning, and networking.
- Specifically, this is a great workshop for Board members, staff, and lead volunteers of nonprofit and community service organizations. It can also be beneficial for local government, service districts, and school, health, and other local institutions.
- We welcome and encourage more than one person from an organization to attend! This helps participants successfully bring the learning back to their organizations.
