Can one person effectively perform two fiscal functions—one as a hands-on fiscal manager and the second as a high-level strategic thinker? While some nonprofit institutions may employ both a high-level accounting manager or controller and an executive level CFO, most small and mid-sized nonprofits combine both sets of responsibilities into a single position. How do fiscal managers, who have a substantial responsibility to produce budgets and monthly financial statements, participate effectively in executive level strategic thinking? What do executive directors most want and need from their top fiscal staff person? How do CFOs successfully manage operations, including IT and facilities?
We're envisioning this session of NFMA as a dialogue among fiscal managers. We know that many nonprofits add responsibility for human resources, information technology, and facilities management onto the basic budget, accounting, and reporting expectations of CFOs/fiscal managers. Plan to share the strategies you are using to cope with the multiple demands of the CFO/fiscal manager position.

About the Presenter
Betty Lou Morrow was educated in Canada earning her Certified General Accountant (CGA) professional licensure and Bachelor of Commerce degree from Laurentian University in Ontario. With 17-years senior management experience in Canada and the United States, Betty Lou has worked across a continuum of organizational missions, budgets, and structures. Her career has been focused in health and human service organizations, including children’s mental health, drug and alcohol treatment, family practice, and anti-poverty service agencies. Currently, Betty Lou is Chief Finance and Operations Officer at Community Action in Washington County. She is responsible for fiscal, IT, and facilities.
