The 21st season of NAO’s Nonprofit Fiscal Managers Association kicks off with a very hot topic—healthcare reform. As nonprofit leaders, we want to provide safe and affordable healthcare for our employees and clients, and recent and upcoming changes in insurance and healthcare leave many of us wondering how these changes will impact our organization’s bottom line.

About the Presenters

Liz Baxter, MPH, is the Executive Director of We Can Do Better, founded in late 2005 as the Archimedes Movement, an organization that believes in the power of leverage. Prior to this work, Liz spent: Five years with the Office of Oregon Health Policy and Research, overseeing a federally funded state planning grant, looking for strategies to expand coverage to uninsured Oregonians; twelve years with Legacy Health System, managing public and private funded grants in chronic care, primary care and care management, with an emphasis on connecting traditional medical care and community-based, supportive services; and eight years working with Medicaid and Oregon Project Independence in Washington, Multnomah, and Clackamas counties. Liz has her undergraduate degree in social work, two years of graduate study in gerontology and completed her Masters in Public Health at Portland State University. She was appointed in September 2011 to chair the Oregon Health Insurance Exchange Board of Directors.

Brian Conner joined Heffernan Insurance Brokers as the Vice President of Operations, Group Benefits in 2010 with an extensive background in Human Resources/Operations. Brian’s strategic-thought leadership has brought tremendous growth internally while managing a large geographically dispersed teams. Brian has worked in many industries such as, Bain and Company which encompassed both small, mid-size and non-profit organizations and large multi-national employers like National Semiconductor.

A graduate of the University of Wisconsin School of Law, Erica Storm is an attorney based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her area of specialization is employee benefits. She previously practiced with a large corporate firm in Milwaukee and as in-house counsel for a private company. She currently provides in-depth employee benefit resources for brokers and HR professionals.
