In this interactive session, we'll explore how to build the evaluation capacity of your nonprofit in order to promote organizational learning. Using Camp Fire Columbia as a case study, this session will offer a framework and resources for thinking about how to develop an evaluation strategy that informs multiple aspects of nonprofit management. Stakeholders from different parts of the Camp Fire system will speak to how they utilize evaluation in various activities, such as program design, implementation and management, strategic planning, outreach, fundraising, and communications. They will also share key lessons learned from Camp Fire Columbia’s experience developing an organization-wide evaluation strategy. Participants will have an opportunity to reflect both individually and in small groups about implications for their own organization.
The session will cover the following topics:
- Integrating “evaluative thinking” into nonprofit practice
- Understanding the various purposes and types of evaluation
- Developing an evaluation approach that fits your organization
- Identifying key stakeholders and engaging them in evaluation processes
- Utilizing evaluation results to support the mission of your organization
About the Presenter
Julie Petrokubi has over 17 years of experience in the areas of nonprofit management, training, policy, and evaluation. As the Director of Evaluation for Camp Fire Columbia, Julie established an evaluation and quality assessment system for nine programs serving over 3,000 K-12 youth annually. Julie is currently completing a PhD in Youth, Organization, and Community Development at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studies youth-adult partnerships in nonprofit management and systems change. Julie’s research and evaluation experience includes assessing individual, organizational, and community-level projects. A member of the Cradle to Career Initiative Data Team, Julie is very interested in the potential for communities to use data to inform collective impact efforts. She is a member of the American Evaluation Association, Oregon Program Evaluators Network, and Society for Community Research and Action.
