Ash Shepherd, Project Strategist
NPower Northwest
Continental Breakfast & Networking at 7:30
Presentation at 8:00
With the explosion in popularity of social media, much has changed in the past few years. It can be hard to stay on top of all that is “new” in new media and how it affects your PR efforts. Aside from the technology itself, there has been a significant shift in types of content and how it is shared. This session will focus on building a better understanding of what role new media has in PR, tools to help you better leverage these opportunities, and some nonprofit case studies.
During this session you will learn:
- How new media is changing the face of PR
- About tools and resources your nonprofit should know
- Tips and best practices for creating sharable content
- How new media can be integrated in your overall communication planning
- How other nonprofits are using new media and lessons learned
About the Presenter
Ash joined the NPower NW team in 2010 after spending three years as a consultant/trainer with Nonprofit Association of Oregon (formerly known as TACS) focusing on website development, social media and e-mail marketing. He sees himself as more of a “people person with a knack for technology than as a traditional “Techie”. In addition to his technology related work, Ash has worked in numerous capacities in the nonprofit sector -- from social work and youth program development to environmental education.
Ash received a B.S. from the University of Montana in Resource Management and a Masters in Environment and Development from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa. In his free time Ash enjoys doing almost anything outdoors with his family and volunteering as a co-manager of PDXTech4Good and with the Wilderness Action Group of South Africa.
