About this event
This event is provided by Live Wire Radio
Live Wire is radio variety for cultural omnivores. It’s music from up-and-coming bands, original comedy, performance and scintillating interviews with writers, filmmakers, comedians and people who think cool thoughts. Hosted by Luke Burbank (Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me, Too Beautiful to Live), the show is taped in front of a live audience and is aired on public radio stations around the country.
GUESTS:
Aasif Mandvi
You may know Aasif as the “Senior Foreign-Looking Correspondent” on the Daily Show, but he has since moved on to HBO, where he’s a writer, actor and co-producer of The Brink, a comedy series based on the geopolitical crisis in Pakistan. (Yes, it doesn’t sound funny. But it really is.)
Wallace J. Nichols
Why do we all feel so calm when we sit by the sea? Nichols is a marine biologist and wild water advocate whose new book Blue Mind seeks to explain the psychological and physical reasons we’re all so enamored of, and soothed by, water.
Bri Pruett
A standup comic and sidekick on the live comedy extravaganza Late Night
Action with Alex Falcone, Bri also writes a top-click-getting column for the Portland Mercury called “Let’s Do It with Bri Pruett,” wherein she gives advice on…sex things.
Rinker Buck
In May of 2011, Rinker and his younger brother picked up the Oregon Trail in Nebraska in a restored 19th century wagon with three mules. He wrote about the extremely bumpy experience in The Oregon Trail, named top indie book by Amazon in July 2015.
Musical Guests:
Christopher Paul Stelling
Singer-songwriter out of Brooklyn, New York, known for his powerful voice and ridiculously good finger-picking on nylon-string guitar. Praised by American Songwriter and SPIN, Stelling recently released his third album, Labor Against Waste, and appeared on NPR’s All Songs Considered.
Joseph
Named after a man, a town and an ancient dream interpreter, Joseph is a band made up of three sisters whose striking harmonies and haunting melodies fill their debut release, Native Dreamer Kin.
