George Myers, Principal Consultant, Gmars Consulting, LLC

Does your board use the microscope or the telescope? Microscopic thinking and micromanagement leave some boards stuck. Others strike out into unknown territory, trusting their instincts moving ahead with and accomplish their mission with ease. Another way to frame the topic of this workshop is how to shift from spending precious time at your board meetings talking about the past, and instead focus your key leaders on shaping and guiding your organization towards the desired future.

In this sessions, participants will:

  • Identify the characteristics of a visionary board
  • Learn to attract members with vision
  • Create a culture of telescopic thinking to boldly move ahead

About the Presenter

George Myers

George Myers began volunteering through his church with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity about 20 years ago. His roles included rehab construction, family selection and serving on an interfaith coalition. In 1995 he left his sales and marketing job and moved to Habitat’s headquarters in Americus Georgia as an extended volunteer. In 1997 he became a full time employee of Habitat for Humanity International as an Affiliate Support Manager, assigned to Minnesota and North Dakota. He then served from 2005 onwards with Habitat as an Organizational Development Consultant supporting their Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative as well as other programs. Over the years, he has been able to acquire and hone an exceptional set of skills. After leaving Habitat in 2013, George launched out on his own as an independent nonprofit consultant. He enjoys strategic planning, and training staff, board members and volunteers. He has worked with over 150 boards! He also has a strong background in fund raising, capacity building and evaluation. George approaches all work with an asset and strength-based perspective looking for “what’s working.” He relocated to Sisters in 2015 and loves Central Oregon!
