NonStop Administration & Insurance Services

Every nonprofit executive acts as steward to both their organization and their employees. Choosing a healthcare plan that meets organizational budget constraints and offers premium benefits to employees can be a near-impossible task. This becomes especially true in the face of significant healthcare cost increases and a competitive job market that already makes attracting and retaining top staff a challenge. In addition, managing and staying current with shifts in ACA compliance adds to the list of healthcare challenges that nonprofits encounter in this age of reform.

These days the traditional model of healthcare just isn’t cost-effective for nonprofits nor does it benefit employees in the long run. As such a new – and better – solution must be found. Fortunately the advent of healthcare reform has inspired innovation on the part of healthcare entrepreneurs who want to shake up the current system for the better. New companies are re-inventing healthcare to better serve communities – such as nonprofits – with increased savings, improved benefits, and creative approaches to insurance offerings.

One such approach is partial self-insurance, which carries similar savings to fully self-funding but with reduced financial risk. As the healthcare landscape continuously shifts with ACA requirements and steep rate hikes, partially self-funded healthcare plans are a viable and less risky strategy for nonprofit organizations. Through presentations and round table discussions this talk will focus on partial self-insurance, specifically as it relates to: current issues in healthcare; how nonprofits can learn from for-profit approaches to group insurance; making healthcare costs more of an effective asset and less of a financial burden; and how nonprofit organizations can save money and provide enhanced and customized benefits to employees. The discussion will also touch on a few of the most pressing shifts in ACA compliance expected in the coming months and how best to prepare.

About the Presenters

David Sloves

David Sloves founded Nonstop because he saw a significant disconnect in the way for-profits and nonprofits access healthcare for employees. While for-profits often have enough financial capital to invest in quality employee benefits, restrictions on nonprofit overhead often limit an organization’s ability to access competitive benefits that attract and retain top talent. David’s goal with Nonstop is to reverse the inflationary costs of healthcare for nonprofits, support organizational growth and sustainability, and provide a meaningful contribution through increased savings and unrestricted operating funds. The three main tenets of Nonstop’s approach include creating a sense of community wellness, providing early access to healthcare for employees, and building an internal team that feels empowered to serve nonprofits. David has been a successful technology entrepreneur since the early 1980s. He has founded a series of businesses focused on creating innovative tools and processes aimed at delivering repeatable, cost-effective solutions to complex business problems. He has partnered with industry leaders including platform software providers such as Autodesk and Microsoft (both for more than 10 years); hardware and infrastructure providers such as Apple, Cisco, Enterasys, HP, IBM and Intel (all for more than 10 years); and a wide range of smaller, high growth firms working through, SaaS/ASP, systems integration and VAR partnerships.

Kristin Donahue

Kristin Donohue has worked with Nonstop since it’s beginning in 2012. Her primary role is to develop strategic communication and marketing plans for Nonstop in conjunction with nonprofit clients. Kristin also works directly with nonprofit partners to create educational outreach materials and programs, develop event sponsorship opportunities, and provide scholarships to nonprofits for educational events through the Nonstop for Nonprofits Community Fund. As part of the Community Fund, Kristin manages relationships with nonprofit associations and partners in all of the communities Nonstop serves including Northern California/Bay Area; Portland, OR; Seattle, WA; and most recently the Southern California region. In addition, Kristin works closely with the Nonstop Advisory Board, which encompasses a high-profile contingency of retired nonprofit executives.

Danielle Ledford

Danielle Ledford joined Nonstop in 2014, and she is a first point of contact for nonprofits that are interested in learning more about Nonstop’s unique approach to healthcare. As Community Liaison, Danielle educates potential clients about partial self-insurance, collaborates with them to create custom plans, and provides personalized and targeted savings analyses. In addition, Danielle acts as a contact for the Nonstop Advisory Board, a group of high-profile retired nonprofit executives. Danielle also serves as a spokesperson for Nonstop at community and educational events, and participates in outreach and marketing activities. Prior to joining Nonstop, Danielle helped nonprofit clients build their brands through free or significantly reduced advertising programs as part of the Lamar Advertising Giving Back program. Danielle also co-founded and served as the Operations Manager for her own nonprofit organization, The Bridgetown Society, which supported a number of local Portland nonprofits through fundraising efforts. With The Bridgetown Society, Danielle’s role included planning/executing events, managing volunteers, and securing donations.
