Tired of investing time and money in strategic planning processes that lead nowhere? Be the champion in your organization for turning your strategic plan into an action plan, and making strategic planning an enjoyable—instead of a dreaded—process.

In this fast-paced workshop, we will quickly cover the basics of strategic planning, including best practices. We will spend a bit of time identifying ways that you can create regular opportunities for board, staff, and other stakeholders to participate in strategic planning, and more importantly, help ensure your goals are implemented. We will also be sure to talk specifics: tried and true tips for preventing your plan from collecting dust on a shelf.

We will send you on your way with the tools you need to get started (or generate new momentum for a waning process). Since strategic planning is not “one size fits all,” we will look at a couple of examples of how different processes have served different organizations well. We will also provide differing strategic plan templates in hard copy and electronic formats.

Strategic planning has the ability to reinvigorate—or in some cases, reinvent—your organization. Contribute to our collective learning and walk away with tools, ideas, and conviction to make it happen for your organization!

About the Presenter

Kathy Kniep, a founding member of the Executive Transition Services (ETS) team, has over 20 years’ experience in the nonprofit sector and derives great satisfaction from working with people in inclusive, empowering, and dynamic teams to create and implement strategies that benefit people, the environment, and our community. She recently served for over five years as executive director of the YWCA Clark County, a Vancouver-based social services and social change organization helping over 11,000 people each year, primarily victims-survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and homelessness. Prior to that, she led several local nonprofits as an interim executive director with the ETS program. She also worked with a variety of nonprofit and government agencies as an independent consultant, facilitating strategic planning, executive transitions, public involvement, fundraising, and board development.

About the Network

Each session of the Mid-Valley Nonprofit Network is designed to strengthen your management skills while providing field-tested concepts and tools to take back to your organization for implementation. In addition to skills development, each session allows for networking and peer coaching in a collaborative learning environment.
