Reports of embezzlement and fraud within Oregon nonprofit organizations have risen at an alarming rate over the past few years. All too frequently, embezzlement schemes have gone undetected right up to the point that the organization is threatened with financial collapse—leaving the directors in the most difficult position imaginable. This course will explore the most common schemes that have victimized Oregon nonprofit organizations. We will discuss detection methods available to nonprofit fiscal managers and some financial internal controls that can help prevent fraud before it occurs.
