Presentation & Continental Breakfast at 8:00
Networking at 9:30
Over 300 Oregon executive directors participated in the recent nationwide study of nonprofit executive leadership conducted by CompassPoint and the Meyer Foundation. Daring to Lead explored a range of topics related to the executive director experience, including the impact of the current economic climate, tenure and transition in the role, Board relationships, and professional development needs. Managing the multiple expectations of the role, working with marginal Boards of Directors, and meeting demands for services that increasingly exceed capacity were among the challenges cited by a significant number of respondents.
This session will present findings from Daring to Lead and explore the implications for Oregon nonprofit leaders. Topics to be covered include:
- The impact of the economy on leadership decisions
- Board relations
- Professional development strategies
- Succession planning
- Isolation and burnout
Participants will have an opportunity to join in lively discussion, learn from the report findings, and engage with colleagues about ways to make the executive director role less draining and more sustainable.
